For the People

Eating animals is associated with disease: diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity to name just a few. As we kill and eat animals, their bodies give us disease and kill us.

  • Heart disease is a toothless paper tiger and not need exist according to Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, M.D. Please read his book.
  • Type II Diabetes can be reversed in many cases by a whole-foods plant-based diet according to Neal Barnard M.D. Please read his book.
  • Cancer was promoted by eating animal protein “casein” the major protein found in dairy as documented in The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. Want to learn more? Please read this ground-breaking book.

For the Animals

70 billion land animals are confined, slaughtered and eaten by humans every year. More than 6 million animals are killed for food every hour. All these animals wanted life. They suffer just as we do. Animals are here with us on the planet, not for us.

As the Buddha taught:

“All beings tremble before violence. All love life. All fear death. See yourself in others. Then whom can you hurt? What harm can you do?”
~ Buddha

For the Planet

Due to our addiction to meat, fish, dairy and eggs we are destroying the planet. The following well documented facts bear this out:

  • Agriculture is responsible for 80-90% of US water consumption. Growing feed crops just for livestock alone consumes 56% of water in the US.
  • 2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef. 477 gallons of water are required to produce 1 lb. of eggs;  almost 900 gallons of water are needed for 1 lb. of cheese.
  • Livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total land. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of species extinction, ocean dead zones, water pollution, and habitat destruction.
  • Livestock operations on land have created more than 500 nitrogen flooded dead zones around the world in our oceans.
  • 1/3 of the planet is desertified, with livestock as the leading driver.
  • 3/4 of the world’s fisheries are exploited or depleted. As many as 2.7 trillion animals are pulled from the ocean each year. 1-2 acres of rainforest are cleared every second.
  • 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries.
  • Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
